Good maintenance is important. If engines are regularly checked, they can achieve their maximum service life. At DG Motor, you're at the right address for reliable and fast service.
Maintenance with or without a contract
DGM can provide maintenance for your engines with, or without, a contract. Whether a maintenance contract is worthwhile depends entirely on your situation. Together, we can look at what's most sensible for you. Even if you don't have a maintenance contract with us, you can be sure of our excellent service. Either way, we'll ensure that you can keep sailing.
Customized maintenance
Many of our clients have periods when they work more, and periods when they work less. In this case, customized maintenance may be an attractive option for you. Maintenance is then carried out based on the number of hours actually worked and not on a particular period of time. DGM therefore anticipates the actual need for maintenance as well as your company's situation.
Remote Access Control
Most of the time, our clients know themselves when maintenance is needed. The number of operational hours is generally checked. As an additional service, we offer Remote Access Control of your engines. This way, DGM is able to check your engines remotely. We can see if it is time for maintenance. We can also get a readout of the engine performance if there is a breakdown. This allows us to get a good picture of what's going on in the engine room.
When and wherever
Maintenance is always carried out in consultation with the client. We're flexible and we work out together where maintenance can best be carried out. It's no problem at all if you happen to be abroad at that moment. We'll come to you.
Our staff are dedicated to getting problems solved as quickly as possible. Making sure that you can sail again in no time, gives us satisfaction.
Direct contact
At DGM, we work with short communication lines. If you have a problem, you'll have someone on the line almost immediately who can help you. In consultation with you, our experienced staff will try to establish precisely and as quickly as possible what the problem is. A plan of action is then immediately agreed with you.
Stocks and fast delivery
In DGM's warehouses, most parts are already in stock. This enables us to act quickly. In some rare cases, there are parts which have to be ordered, but even then, we're almost always able to supply them within 24 hours.
Immediate solutions
Our engineers are always sent to you well prepared, with the right equipment and parts and with a clear objective. Once on board, the engineer sets to work. We're proud of the fact that in 80% of all repairs, we're able to solve everything, first time on board.
If anything goes wrong
Even at DGM, it's not always a success story. Despite the guaranteed quality of products and diverse tests, it sometimes goes wrong. We can't stand it if that happens. In these cases, you can expect thorough action from us. We immediately send an engineer again so that the problem can be solved. Pleasing the customer, despite problems, gives us satisfaction.
In the last 25 years, engine overhauls have become DG Motor top speciality. We carry out overhauls on board. In consultation with the client, YES can also carry out overhauls abroad.
A second life
Caterpillar engines are designed so that they can gain a second life after an overhaul even after very many operational hours. A Caterpillar engine can keep going for twenty years this way.
The DGM overhaul
At DGM, we understand that it's very important that you're not out of action for too long. That's why we're dedicated to getting you sailing again as quickly as possible. A complete overhaul is carried out by us in two to four weeks. That includes: dismantling, overhaul, test runs in the test facility, commissioning, proof sailing and measurements. As well as the speed, the quality of the overhaul is extremely important. In the last twenty years, DGM has developed an approach to make sure that quality and speed go hand in hand.
Working method
The need for an overhaul varies per case. That's why we always come on board to inspect the engine thoroughly. We even inspect the inside of the engine with an endoscope. We then draw up an advisory report based on our findings. If it is time for an overhaul, we provide a quotation and a schedule. A schedule from DGM is no empty promise. We do everything to ensure that the work is completed on schedule.
Three types of overhaul
DGM provides three types of overhaul. Firstly, a 'top' overhaul which is carried out after the engine has reached 50% of its expected useful operational life (50% of operational hours). We always carry out this type of revision on board. After reaching its total number of expected useful operating hours, an engine should be subjected to an inframe or complete overhaul. An inframe overhaul can easily take place on board.
A complete overhaul will give the engine a new lease of life. This kind of overhaul usually takes place in our yard. All of the facilities are available to carry out the overhaul as quickly and as carefully as possible. Once it has been completed, the engine can be thoroughly tested in the test rig. The test rig helps us ensure your engine is in a perfect state when it is reinstalled in your ship.
Care
The quality of an overhaul depends on how carefully it is carried out. Once the engine has been dismantled, the basic elements are meticulously checked with the latest technology such as Infra Red and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Most checks are carried out by DGM itself and if parts have to be worked on we can do that ourselves. If the crankshaft has to be worked on - milling, grinding, planing or boring - we outsource it to our sister company, CF-Techniek. Both companies complement each other perfectly.
Testing
All overhauled engines are thoroughly tested by DGM in our test rig. The circumstances on the ship are accurately reproduced. Thanks to these tests we can be practically certain that the engine will perform optimally once on board.
DGM's yard has had a test rig since 2014. The rig is equipped with all the relevant facilities and more than 160 sensors, so that overhauled engines can be tested in detail.
To measure is to know
The test rig has been designed so that the exact situation on board can be reproduced. There is room for two engines. The engines can be test run with a load by means of electrical resistance and the RPM's and torque are measured. Temperature, pressure, fuel, emissions, supercharger pressure and output are also measured. All the details are shown on ten displays in the control room. Everything is filmed as well so that certain tests can be reviewed. Clients are more than welcome to see the engine being tested.
All this information means that DGM is able to tune engines to perfection. Once all of the tests have been completed, the reports are handed over to the client and the engine is ready to be installed.
Certification
The test rig can also be used for the information necessary for classification (for Lloyds' and Bureau Veritas). Engines that have been altered because of emission regulations can also be tested for new certification.
Maximum reliability
Once the engine has got through the tests in the rig, everything is done to make sure that a good product is supplied. The chance of complications after installation on board is therefore very small. That's a reassuring thought for both the client and DGM, particularly because DGM installs overhauled engines all over the world.
